CRAFT STORIES

THE M'NONG BLACK POTTERY

Nobody knows when the ancient pottery of M'Nông Rlâm people in Dak Lak began. Only women, from mother to daughters or nieces  learn this craft. At the time of prosperity, M'Nông pottery was sold everywhere in the Central Highlands. However, with the strong development of plastics, metals and other ceramics, M'Nông pottery has gradually lost its significance, putting at risk of complete disappearance.

FOLK WOOD SCULPTURE

Besides 'The space of the gongs culture in the Vietnam Central Highlands' being recognized as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the culture of folk statue sculpture is also a prominent and distinctive traditional culture among the minorities of the Central Highlands. It can be said that folk sculpture exhibits distinct characteristics in terms of tools and appearance. Artisans rely on rudimentary tools such as axes and machetes, resulting in products that are more generalized than detailed, leaving room for imagination. The innocence, imbalance, and rusticity combine to create a captivating and mysterious beauty in wood statues.

TRADITIONAL TEXTILES

Traditional brocade weaving techniques of Vietnam’s ethnic minorities are diverse and abundant. From woven patterns, beads, embroidery, batik, and ikat – these techniques are all elaborate and special. Each product contains the essence and soul of each minority.
